Our college of choice this year is North Central College in Naperville, IL. We will be marching in the parade on Thusday, May 14th around Spencer Tech about 12ish. This is the event that you all have been waiting for, yes, a chance to expose our babies to what education is all about. I am asking that your child wear the school colors for the parade which are red and white.

Parents and Teachers-
The students in the class have been learning about the cost of living and the housing in the 16th century. People and events of the time such as: Pocahontas, William Penn, Mayflower Compact, and Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving. The students have built their own version of the log cabins and housing of the Colonial Period. Ask how much did bread cost and other items, maybe the prices will Wow you compared to what we pay now.
Students-
Your assignment is the partner with another student and make a powerpoint presentation comparing then and now, i.e. housing, food, transportation, etc. Due April 13, 2009. Work hard over spring break.
Dear students:
We are going to be away from each other for two weeks, so during that time I want you to learn more about yourself. Meaning, I want you to interview the eldest person in your family that you will see over the winter break with questions such as, but not limited to:
Where did your parents live before coming to Chicago?
What kind of work did they do?
How much did they make a week?
How much did a loaf of bread cost?
How much was a gallon of gas?
What kind of jobs did you have?
How much did you make?
Make a poster with the information and any pictures that you can collect to show and tell the class when we return on January 5, 2009.

We are learning about three types of rock: sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic.
Sedimentary rocks were deposited millions of years ago as “strata” (layers) of loose material. Igneous means made from fire or heat. Metamorphic means changed. Metamorphic rock is rock whose appearance and sometimes mineral composition has been changed.
For extra credit in Science:
1. Choose a rock type to research and list five important facts about it.
2. Draw a picture of your rock type or, download and print a picture of it from the Internet.
We have been covering the solar system and you should by now know what planets are in our solar system. We have also covered comets and asteroids in outer space.
Today I want you to write me a science fiction story with you and your family landing on another planet in our solar system. Describe in detail what you see, hear, feel, and smell.
